Becoming A Freemason
There are many reasons why our members join. For some, it is about making new friendships, for others it is about self-development and improvement. Some members prize most our work in supporting charity, while others value the history, ritual and traditions of one of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world.

For many it is a combination of these and other factors which first spark their interest.

For more information about the principles of Freemasonry, please see this video.

It is not necessary to know a Freemason to join. Further information about Freemasonry may be found on the website of the organisation's governing body, the United Grand Lodge of England at https://www.ugle.org.uk/

If you live in Blandford or its surrounds and might be interested in joining the Lodge please contact us by emailing the Secretary and one of our members will be pleased to have an informal chat.

We would welcome applications from any man who satisfies the basic criteria for Freemasonry, irrespective of work or social background, and who wishes to become a better person. Given the characteristics of the other members, the ideal candidate would strive for excellence while being able to laugh at themselves when this was not achieved. Although ritual is valued, an ability and willingness to contribute to other aspects of the Lodge would be equally as welcome. An appreciation of banter is essential.

Our Lodge is open only to men, but Freemasonry is equally open to women. The two organisations that our Grand Lodge has the closest relationship with are Freemasonry for Women and the Order of Women Freemasons. Both of the women’s organisations, and ourselves, prefer to practice our Freemasonry in single sex environments. The United Grand Lodge of England regularly hires its facilities out for meetings of the two women’s Lodges due to our mutual respect and close relations.
